CAMPUS Asia Program—BESETO Intellectual Dialogue Deans’ panel inspired all!

On July 4, 2018, Deans’ panel organized under CAMPUS Asia Program inspired all the participants at BESETO Intellectual Dialogue 2018 titled “New Developments around the Korean Peninsula and International Relations in East Asia”. Moderated by Prof. Manabu Nose, the first round discussion focused on new developments around the Korean peninsula and regional security. Deans Qingguo Jia, Cheol Hee Park and Akio Takahara assessed the recent US-North Korea summit positively while emphasizing challenges ahead to reach concrete outcomes. Faced with such challenges, a shared view among the deans was that China, Japan and South Korea should continue their joint efforts to support the denuclearization process. The second round was about trade war, trade tensions and China-Japan-South Korea (CJK) economic cooperation. Deans jointly expressed their concern about the serious impacts of trade war on the global economy and agreed on the need to maintain the international system by adhering to the shared rules and norms. In the concluding session, all the participants in the Dialogue echoed to Deans’ commitment to enhancing BESETO coalition for mutual understanding and trust.
