The debate over China’s economy keeps people’s attention with two opposing views. Some argue for China’s potential as the world’s second largest economy and hope for successful reforms to address various challenges. The others are skeptical about the success of reform efforts and talk about crisis scenarios. Mr. Otani is going to discuss China’s prospects for long-term growth and its sustainability by evaluating the past performance.

Speaker’s Profile:
Mr. Ichiro Otani joined the IMF in 1969 as an economist. He spent years in IMF’s Research Department, Asia and Pacific Department and Institute. Mr. Otani served as Division Chief in the Asia and Pacific Department and then as Head of IMF Office in China before retiring in 2003.
