　中東政治研究の基本的な概念と主要諸国の政治の特徴的要素について、代表的な教科書・論文選集をテキストにして受講者と共に読み進めながら講義を行う。

（１）中東政治研究の諸概念 （２）資源・環境・人口学的条件
（３）植民地化と脱植民地化（４）国家と社会（５）富と貧困 （６）紛争と和平
（７）イスラーム政治思想（８）エリートと大衆（９）マイノリティと支配権力
（10）左翼の思想と運動（11）イラクと三つの湾岸戦争
（12）サウジアラビアの体制と反体制（13）エジプトとシリア
（14）イランの二つの革命（15）トルコとヨーロッパ
（16）イスラエルのジレンマ、といったテーマの中から適宜選択する。

　受講に際しては、中東各国の政治の基本構図を David E. Long and Bernard Reich (eds), The Government and Politics of the Middle East and North Africa , 4th ed., Boulder, Westview, 2002 といったカントリー・プロファイル的概説書で把握しておくと有益である。中東政治研究の先行研究はBernard Reich (ed.), Handbook of Political Science Research on the Middle East and North Africa , Westport, Connecticut, Greenwood Press, 1998; Mark Tessler (ed.), Area Studies and Social Science: Strategies for Understanding Middle East Politics , Bloomington, Indiana University Press, 1999 といったハンドブック類で一望できる。

以下の教科書・論文選集の主要な部分を輪読しつつ講義する（マスターコピーを用意し、各回に「読みどころ」を示す）。
