Objectives

The objectives of this course are to give course attendants hands-on experience of studying business cases of Japanese companies, and of small scale research on business concerns around a particular project in collaboration with staffs of the companies.
This course is newly established in 2015 in response to the call from GraSPP international students for more to learn and be exposed to the Japanese business society.
The ultimate aim of the course is to offer the attendants an opportunity to learn business culture and modus operandi of internationalised Japanese companies. Hence, the attendants are very much deserved to be critical and argumentative however; the organizer of the course would like to ask them for due respects to the companies.

The organizer of the course has spent 30 years in business both in Japan and abroad however; the attendants will not expect full lectures on theories and methods of business practices, which can be learned by reading books, plenty of them.

The attendants will expect hard work and will certainly get a great honour of participating the foundation of this new experimental course.

Schedule

The idea hereunder is to be regarded as tentative one. In 2nd week Feb, when the organizer is writing this, he is preparing and sorting out many things.
Anyway;
Japanese companies internationally operating will join the course. They will introduce business cases, real ones.
The cases with long term project life will be chosen, which naturally forces the company, the risk taker, to anticipate any future changes of their business environment.
Through the discussion with the company staffs, course attendants will understand key concerns that could affect the project.

Then the attendants are divided into several study groups. Each group will undertake the study of one or two concerns having emerged in the discussion, its nature, possible development toward long term future, and possible impact on the project. Will this concern be a risk or an opportunity ?
When conducting the study, following the scenario planning methodology would be recommended.

The researches on business environment will be done mostly outside classroom. The attendants will be expected to self organize in group a small scale research process.

Finally, the course will end by presentations from each study group for the company staffs.

The company may host one visit to her office in order to allow the attendants to see and question many things. It will be a long day that day.
