Assistant Professor and Assistant Director of Master of Public Policy, International Program (MPP/IP)

The University of Tokyo's Graduate School of Public Policy (GraSPP) invites applications for a renewable-term position to begin in March 2010. The School is seeking an assistant professor in public policy who can also serve as an assistant director of Master of Public Policy, International Program (MPP/IP), an English-taught program to be launched October 2010.

Candidates for the position are expected to be able to teach at least two courses including Professional Writing and Presentation and a course related to public management. Candidates must be committed to assist director of MPP/IP for management and administration of the program, to advise international students regarding course registration and transferring credits and to coordinate collaboration between partner universities on academic exchanges and researches.

Candidates for this position must have a demonstrated record of outstanding professional accomplishments. PhD is required -either in Public Policy, Public Management, Economics or International Affairs- with a preference for candidates who already have the PhD or will receive the PhD by August 2010. Candidates must have extremely strong writing and presentation skills, with proficiency in English comparable to native speakers. Candidates will be expected to have high level of Japanese fluency.

Initial appointment is thirteen months, renewable depending on performance.

All candidates should send a cover letter, a CV, evidence of teaching ability, and research papers to MPP/IP@pp.u-tokyo.ac.jp. Candidates also must arrange for two letters of reference to be sent to the above email address. All documents must be reached at GraSPP by 18:00 JST, November 30, 2009.

Screening of the candidates will begin immediately and this invitation is open through November 30, 2009.
