COURSE: Monday & Wednesday at Period 2, "Case Study (International Political Economy)"

Message from Professor HIWATARI.

Instructions on the second round of presentations.

1. Starting next Monday (13th), everyone will give their second presentation. I need volunteers for both the 13th. and 15th. If you wish to volunteer, just come to class with your presentation slides.

2. In your second round, you are expected to present your prospects, the hard copy of which should be submitted by the end of the month.

The prospectus should include the following five components:

(i) Your research question

(ii) Your analytical framework, which should include
(a) your dependent variable (preferably one variable, which should vary either across countries or across time points)
(b) your independent variables (factors that you expect explains the variance of your dependent variable)
(c) And, your hypothesis (which explains the expected relations between the dependent variable and independent variables)
Note: Qualitative/descriptive/historical case studies are welcome but even so you should provide a summary statistic of your dependent variable.

(iii) Your data and materials

(iv) The implications of your results

(v) List of references (that you used to build your hypothesis and illuminates the implications of your study)

3. Please make sure you prepare for a presentation no longer than 10 minutes. That will give us 10~15 minuets for Q&A during and after your presentation.

4. Please be aware that your have less than 2 months to write up your paper, so your prospectus must be clear, concise, realistic, and feasible.
