The Japan Institute of International Affairs is pleased to inform you that it will be holding an international symposium on the topic of "Japan-US energy cooperation"

In the midst of significant political and economic changes worldwide, a paradigm shift is taking place in the context of energy strategy.
Ensuring reliable supplies of energy is a key security issue for Japan, necessitating a strategic foreign policy that embraces cooperation with other countries. In particular, cooperation on energy strategy with the US, Japan's most important ally, is seen as having critical implications　for Japan's economy and security. Bearing in mind two time frames - 2020 (medium term) and 2030 (long term) - this symposium will examine the medium- to long-term impacts of energy-related geopolitical issues now emerging across the globe, and will feature broad-ranging discussions among invited specialists from Japan and the US on possible forms of cooperation between the two countries on these issues.

JIIA公開シンポジウムのご案内 2014年10月27日（月）

この度、当研究所では、平成26年度外務省外交・安全保障調査研究事業「日本の資源外交とエネルギー協力」プロジェクトの一環として「日米のエネルギー協力」をテーマに、下記のとおり公開シンポジウムを開催する運びとなりましたので、ご案内申し上げます。世界の政治・経済の情勢が大きく動く中、エネルギー戦略環境のパラダイムシフトが起きています。エネルギーの安定供給の確保は、日本の安全保障にとって重要な課題であり、他の国との連携も含めた戦略的な外交政策が必要となります。その中でも、最重要の同盟国である米国とのエネルギー戦略での協力は、日本の経済・安全保障にとって決定的に重要な意味合いを持つと考えられます。本シンポジウムでは、2020年（中期）と2030年（長期）の二つのタイムフレームを念頭に置き、現在各地で起こっているエネルギーに関わる地政学的な問題が中長期的にどのような影響を及ぼすかを整理し、それに対して日米はどのような協力が出来るのか、日米の専門家を招いて広く議論を行います。
