Professor Masamine Jimba, from the Graduate School of Medicine, University of Tokyo, will be the keynote speaker in this session. Prof. Jimba is a distinguished expert in the field of global public health. He established the first WHO office in the Gaza Strip, and worked in rural Nepal as a team leader of the Nepal School and Community Health Project organised by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), WHO, and the Japan Medical Association. Since 2002 he has been working at the University of Tokyo on health research projects in Asia, Africa and Latin America.

Kozue Okamura, Ph.D. candidate at the University of Tokyo and member of the GSDM Student Initiative Project “SME (small and medium enterprise) Support During the COVID-19 Pandemic”, will be the discussant during this event. Kozue will provide insights from her recent study on a forecast model for COVID-19 cases based on observed data.

The topic of the session is: “Understanding what strategies are necessary and have been taken to overcome humanitarian crises in relation to COVID-19”.
