Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship (University Recommendation) – International Priority Graduate Program: MEXT (PGP)

(updated on November 29, 2023)

MEXT Scholarship (PGP) application information is now available for MPP/IP applicants for September enrollment, AY2024.

Only current MPP/IP admissions AY2024 (September enrollment) applicants are eligible to apply.

Applicants for April enrollment (MPPIP-2024) can also apply as long as they understand they will be automatically treated as September enrollees when selected to be recommended for the MEXT scholarship. It is also necessary for the applicants to convey such intention to MPP/IP Admissions Office before applying for the MEXT scholarship.
Those admitted to GraSPP but not recommended for the MEXT Scholarship (PGP) will remain in April enrollment in that case. Candidates who are to be recommended by GraSPP will receive notification via e-mail by February 26.

Only those newly arriving from abroad could apply in the past; however, for this program (re-adopted as PGP in AY2021), it became possible to recommend some candidates currently residing in Japan. If such candidates’ status of residence is other than ‘study,’ it needs to be changed to ‘study’ when being accepted as a MEXT scholar.
