Description

This class focuses on international trade policy from theoretical as well as empirical perspectives. Interactions between instructors and students are highly encouraged. The class reviews international trade theory while dealing with the following topics:
(1) Comparative advantage and gains from trade;
(2) Strategic trade policy and dynamic comparative advantage;
(3) Trade friction and industrial adjustment;
(4) Domestic barriers to trade and investment and market opening;
(5) Multinational corporations’ global activity;
(6) Foreign direct investment and intra-industry trade;
(7) International labor mobility;
(8) Role and functions of the World Trade Organization (WTO);
(9) Regional trade arrangements (EU, NAFTA, ASEAN, East Asia);
(10) Economic development of developing countries: aid, trade, labor and environments
