Description

1. Purpose of the course is to enable students to deepen their understanding of foreign policy issues. The following issues will be taken up to be considered:
Foreign policy in general, policy toward the UN (assessment of the UN, its reform, PKO etc), policy toward EU, economic cooperation (ODA), economic diplomacy, crisis management and intelligence (intelligence collection and analysis of major countries, analysis of international situation etc.), disarmament and arms control, social problems including environment, public opinion and diplomacy/public relations (domestic as well as international), consular affairs (protection of nationals abroad etc), international law in diplomacy

2. Students will be requested to write a policy recommendation paper, a situation analysis paper or a case study paper on the theme decided through consultation. Discussion sessions will be held on these papers in the latter part of the course.
