Description

In this course, we study economic sanctions against internationally wrongful acts from the point of international law as well as diplomatic policy. Both unilateral economic sanctions and non-military enforcement measures are dealt with.

By considering precedents of economic sanctions, the legality, the legitimacy and the effectiveness of economic sanctions will be made clear. Problems concerning drafting and domestic implementation of the UN Security Council resolutions, extraterritorial application of export control laws and smart sanctions will also be studied.
