Political Methodology

Description

The goal of this course is to help students acquire basic skills in methods to analyze politics. The main approaches will be game-theoretic and statistical analyses, although qualitative methods will be briefly introduced. The methods will be applied to various topics in international relations, which happens to be my main area of expertise, but a few models that are used in comparative politics will be featured as well.

The style of the course is a mixture of lecture and seminar. While the principles of game theory and statistical theory will be introduced to the students, it is prerequisite for the students to actually solve the models and to analyze data on their own.

References will be indicated at the beginning of the semester. The grades will be based on participation and writing requirements.
