Description

This is an intensive course that critically examines the concept of development by drawing various examples from around the world including Japan . We will address questions of power, institution, poverty, and knowledge in a historical context. The aim is to challenge the pre-conceived notions of development and to gain new perspectives. Students must finish their readings before coming to class and be ready to discuss. On average, we expect students to allocate 4 hours every week for the class preparation. Those who cannot secure the time for preparation should not register.
