Description

This course is designed for graduate students who are interested in advanced topics of macroeconomics. Topics we will cover are consumption and investment functions, money market and interest rates, recent theoretical developments on monetary policy, exchange rate and open macroeconomics, economic growth and fluctuations, financial system and transmissions of monetary policy, inflation and central bank independence, budget deficits and fiscal policy. We will emphasize both theoretical and empirical aspects of macroeconomics, and invite several distinguished scholars as guest speakers for the selected issues on Japanese and global economy.

Shin-ichi Fukuda and Hiroshi Teruyama, 2005, Introduction to Macroeconomics (in Japanese), third edition, Yuhikaku.

Teaching materials:
Lecture notes and homework will be downloadable from the lecture blog of this course.

Grade determination:
35% of grade will be determined based on attendance and homework. Mid-term and final exam will count for 30% and 35%, respectively.
