Description

Examines major concepts and ideas relating to the notion of Kokyosei [publicness], including the public interest, the public sphere, the public/private distinction, and a feminist critique of the distinction. A special focus is on the functions of modern law concerning publicness. Readings come from Hannah Arendt and Jürgen Habermas as well as some legal and political philosophers in contemporary Japan .
