Objectives/Overview

Course objectives are to understand the basic theory on transportation economics and to be able to analyze the policy topics surrounding transport related policies around the world. The policy issues include urban transportation, (high speed) railroads, aviation and maritime transport.

Schedule

In classes, lectures cover recent transportation related policy topics, transportation economics and good policy practices on these fields. Some simple problem sets based on these lectures are given for participants to solve with the learned tools of transportation related microeconomics. Also participants are asked to perform a presentation on the transport related policy issues of their choice during the class.

Teaching Methods

Lectures give basic knowledge on transportation economics, transportation related policy issues in Japan and around the world. Participants are asked to solve some simple problem sets based on the lectures. Also a presentation on transportation related issues of their own choice is required to perform in class.
