Course Description:

This course examines Japan ’s diplomacy in East Asia . We will focus on the following four topics: the Korean Peninsula issue, Japan-China relations, Japan-US relations, and East Asian Community Building. The purpose of this course is to familiarize students with and deepen their understanding of the practical factors (overall international relations, long-term/short-term adjustments, internal political adjustments, public opinion, etc.) that determine Japanese foreign policy.

Students will be required to read widely, participate in class discussion, and prepare policy papers for each topic covered.
