Mina Eto (to Campus Asia International Summer School)
I was very fortunate to be part of the group. It was until the announcement of the summer school in the elevator in GraSPP caught my attention, I had never imagined that I will have a chance to study in South Korea (for the first time) in this summer. However I am very happy to say that, Campus Asia Summer School in South Korea was a very a valuable and memorable experience for me who is graduating GraSPP this fall.
Two-week was not long enough to learn everything about the Korean Peninsula or East Asian studies, however I greatly enjoyed my stay in Seoul, as if I were an exchange student or Seoul National University (SNU) student, with classes taught by professors from SNU, Peking University and Tokyo University; Seoul City Tour; school trip to Demilitarized Zone between north and South Korea; weekend excursion around Seoul city and gatherings with local students. It was one pleasant experience from every perspective.
SNU, located in the urbanized capital city, has an extremely large campus surrounded by rich scenario such as mountainous nature and modernized facilities. The on-campus accommodation where we stayed offered well-organized service and the facility which assured that our stay was memorable and comfortable. Studying, eating and housing together with other students was an exciting experience which we are not accustomed to in GraSPP. SNU has stylish cafeterias on campus, we were able to enjoy delicious Korean food at cheap prices everyday. Further, lovely cafes in and around the university serve delicious cakes and coffee.
Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS), where we had classes, is truly international institution. Many students speak more than three languages. GSIS has a large group of international students that come from all over the world. More than 70 students had attended the summer school. Even though classes were conducted in a spacious lecture hall, we had active discussion and Q&A sessions.
Professors in charge of the classes were different every day. In a short period of time, we learned a wide range of content including politics, economy, and society of East Asia. It was first time and fresh experience for an individual like me to learn exclusively about East Asia. In particular, classes focused "Hallyu" (export of Korean cultural products, such as K-Pop, movies and games) , Korean Peninsula studies and China's public opinion toward Japan were very interesting because those topics dealt with ongoing issues and events that the East Asian region face today. In addition, on the very last day of summer school, we had trip to Demilitarized Zone and briefings from South Korean military and U.S. military personals. We acquired better understanding of what we learn during the summer school, by witnessing the "scene"of the major problem in East Asia. listening to the story directly from the people involved in the scene helped us better understand the overall situation.
I truly appreciate the two-week summer school experience. Through the program, I got deeper and wider knowledge of the East Asian region and experience of living in Seoul and mingle with the lives of Korean people. The summer school made me aware to the importance of seeing things with my own eyes and having conversation with people instead of heavily relying to the handy information given by the Internet or the media on TV. I recommend this program to all students including those who have not majored in East Asian Studies. The program offers not only a chance to learn about the region but also an international academic experience in a totally new environment, which will widen your interest and opportunity in future.

江藤美樹 (to Campus Asia International Summer School)
学内のエレベーターでサマースクールの告知を見るまで、今年の夏に韓国に（初めて）行くとは想像していませんでしたが、この秋に卒業を控える私にとって、韓国・ソウル大学校で開催されたキャンパスアジア・サマースクールでの２週間は本当に貴重な経験になりました。
ソウル大学校、北京大学、東京大学の教授による授業や、ソウル市内観光、軍事境界線視察、休日を利用したソウル近郊都市への小旅行やソウル大学生との交流など、２週間は決して長い期間ではありませんでしたが、交換留学生やソウル大学学生としての生活を体験し、満喫することができました。
ソウル大学校は市内に位置していますが、広大で自然豊かなキャンパス、近代的な設備を有しています。私たちが滞在した学内滞在施設も非常に清潔で近代的な設備でした。また、GraSPP学生と勉（強）･食･住を共にしたことも良い思い出になっています。学内にはオシャレな学食もあり、安い価格で美味しい韓国料理を毎日堪能することができました。大学内や周辺には素敵なカフェも多く美味しいケーキとコーヒーを楽しめます。
私たちが授業を受けたソウル大学Graduate School of International Studies(GSIS)は国際的な大学院です。３カ国語以上を話す学生が多く、世界各国から来た留学生も多く在籍しています。７０人以上の学生が今回のサマースクールを受講していましたが、レクチャー形式の授業ではありながらも、多種多様な意見や質問が出され、授業も活発に行われました。
授業を担当する教授が毎日異なるため、東アジアの政治、経済、社会状勢に関わる内容を短期間にして幅広く学ぶことができました。私自身、東アジア情勢にフォーカスして学ぶことが初めてだったので、どの授業も新鮮でした。その中でも特に、「韓流」に代表される文化分野での政策、朝鮮半島状勢、中国の対日世論に関する授業は、東アジア地域が抱える現在進行形の問題や事例も扱っていたため興味深かったです。また、サマースクール最終日に訪問した軍事境界線や韓国軍・米軍からのブリーフィングは大変衝撃的でした。東アジアが抱える大きな問題の「現場」を実際に見て、現場に携わる人々から話を直接聞く事により、サマースクールで学んだ内容の理解を更に深めることができました。
サマースクールを通じ、東アジア地域に関する知識を得たことだけでなく、実際に２週間ソウルに滞在し、地元の人々の暮らしに少しでも交わることができたことは本当に貴重な経験です。インターネットやメディアを通じ多くの情報を知りえる便利な社会ですが、実際に自分の目で見ること、人々と交流を持つことの重要性を再認識させてくれたことがサマースクールで得た大きな収穫です。東アジア情勢を学んできた学生、今まで特に関心を持たなかった学生の方にも、地域情勢の理解を深めるだけでなく、様々な興味･関心や将来の可能性を広げてくれるような新鮮・国際的体験に溢れるキャンパスアジアプログラムの参加をお勧めしたいです。
