Good Times, Uncertain Times in Asia: A Time to Prepare

 

The near-term outlook for Asia remains very strong, which is also in line with our January forecast. However, the outlook is subject to considerable uncertainties including a market correction, a shift toward protectionist policies, and an increase in geopolitical tensions. In such a moment, policymaking should be conservative and aimed at building buffers and increasing resilience.

Pablo Lopez Murphy’ bio:

Pablo Lopez Murphy is currently Deputy Chief of the Regional Studies Division in the IMF’s Asia and Pacific Department. He also serves as mission chief to Fiji. Earlier in his nearly 15 year career at the IMF, he worked on a wide range of countries, including Greece and Spain during the European crisis, as well as Thailand, Mexico, Lebanon, Hungary, Macedonia, and Botswana. Mr. Lopez Murphy specializes in international macroeconomics and public finance. He earned his PhD from UCLA and his bachelor’s (summa cum laude) from the University of La Plata, both in economics.
