国際基督教大学教養学部卒。東京大学大学院博士課程修了、博士（法学）。専攻は国際政治学、特に米中関係、東アジアの国際関係、秩序論。オーストラリア国立大学博士研究員、東京大学特任助教、神奈川大学教授・同アジア研究センター所長を経て2019年度より現職。土地等利用状況審議会委員、科学技術外交推進会議委員、文化庁国際文化交流・推進委員会委員。また、日本国際交流センター客員研究員、日本経済団体連合会21世紀政策研究所客員研究委員、全米アジア研究所諮問委員を兼ねる。 スタンフォード大学アジア太平洋研究センター客員准教授、ウィルソン国際学術センター・ジャパンスカラー、ソウル国立大学客員研究員、経済産業研究所ファカルティフェローを歴任。著書に『米中対立：アメリカの戦略転換と分断される世界』（中央公論新社）、『共存の模索　アメリカと「2つの中国」の冷戦史』（勁草書房）、編著書に『冷戦後の東アジア秩序』（勁草書房）、訳書にアーロン・フリードバーグ『支配への競争：米中対立の構図とアジアの将来』（日本評論社）など。論文は日本語、英語、中国語にて多数。神奈川大学学術褒賞、日本台湾学会賞など受賞。

Ryo Sahashi is an Associate Professor of International Relations, Institute for Advanced Studies on Asia, the University of Tokyo. He specializes on international politics in East Asia. He sits on government panels including Council on the Actual State of Land Use and Advisory Panel on Science & Technology Diplomacy. He also works as Research Fellow of Japan Center for International Exchange and Visiting Fellow of the 21st Century Policy Institute, Keidanren. He has been Visiting Associate Professor, Walter H. Shorenstein Asia Pacific Research Center at Stanford University, Japan Scholar at the Wilson Center, Visiting Fellow at Georgetown University, Visiting Fellow at Seoul National University, and Faculty Fellow at the Research Institute of Economy, Trade, and Industry. He sits on the Board of Advisors, National Bureau of Asian Research, U.S.A. Dr. Sahashi received his B.A. from International Christian University and his Ph.D. from the Graduate Schools for Law and Politics at the University of Tokyo. His recent books are US-China Rivalry: A Shift of American Strategy and Divided Worlds (Tokyo: Chuko, 2021), In a Search for Coexistence: the United States and Two Chinas during the Cold War (Tokyo: Keiso, 2015), and he edits East Asian Order in the Post-Cold War Era (Tokyo: Keiso, 2020) and Asia Rising: A Handbook of History and International Relations in East, South and Southeast Asia (Springer, forthcoming). His articles appear on Pacific Affairs, Journal of Contemporary China, Contemporary Politics and China International Strategy Review.
