Experience as a first GraSPPer interning at Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS)
Having participated in the Youth Ambassador Program conducted by the TCS in 2019, which became my key motivation for applying to the Campus Asia program at GraSPP, I was more than honored to be able to work with TCS as an intern over the course of two months. I had the opportunity to work for the TCS between February- March of 2023, right before I graduated from GraSPP.
Below, I would like to share my experience with the Department of Socio-Cultural Affairs and the Department of Economic Affairs.
Department of Socio-Cultural Affairs
I interned at the Department of Socio-Cultural Affairs during my first month at TCS (February 2023). Here, my main responsibilities included: 1) Translation (Mainly translations from English to Japanese, but sometimes also involved translations from Chinese to Korean (involving simple cross-checks of the scripts), as well as checking Chinese and Korean scripts to see if there were no errors or typos), 2) Preparing for social events, 3) Helping out with publication material. The most memorable and rewarding experience was attending a social event and helping with research on the publication material. I had the honor to attend the China-Japan-Korea Youth Day in Tokyo on February 10, 2023. I had only interned at TCS for a week back when I attended the event. However, I was given tasks that allowed me to learn and acquire a lot of knowledge from my supervisors. In addition, I feel like I acquired a lot of business skills through my task of conducting research on published material. For this task, I had to contact a lot of museums located in Japan to ask about their material due to copyright concerns.

Department of Economic Affairs
During my second month (March 2023) I had the honor to work with the Department of Economic Affairs. Having close to zero background in economics, I was extremely terrified about not being able to contribute to the department. Unlike February, though, I was able to work in a team with Korean and Chinese intern peers, which made the pressure on me much lighter. Here, I was mostly in charge of translation, like in the Department of Socio-Cultural Affairs, and also for accumulating different information for the Trilateral Statistics Hub.
Although the internship was conducted online, it was a rewarding experience. I was able to learn more about the regional cooperation between the three countries and is now even more hopeful about the bright future of the region.
