Application for 2023 Spring Internship Program offered by Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS) for GraSPP students is now open. The Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS) is an intergovernmental organization established in 2011 by the People’s Republic of China (PRC), Japan, and the Republic of Korea (ROK) (collectively called ‘CJK’) to promote peace and common prosperity in Northeast Asia. The TCS Internship Program aims to enhance trilateral cooperation among the PRC, Japan, and the ROK by inviting CJK university students to gain valuable work experience for their career path as they develop cross-cultural skills and an understanding of TCS’s mission. Internship Information Designation of Department-in-charge The Planning Team will designate a team in charge of the intern with consultation from the Leaders of Statistics and PR teams, considering the intern’s academic background and interest and the team’s demand. The Team Leader of the designated team will supervise and evaluate the intern. Scope of functions To help strengthen the intern’s understanding of the functions and activities of the TCS as well as the works of an international organization, the intern may be instructed to serve the following functions to the satisfaction of the aforementioned objectives: [Statistics] - Compute and analyze data, using statistical formulas and computers or calculators - Check source data to verify completeness and accuracy - Translate required contents to native languages - Enter data into computers for use in analyses or reports - Compile reports, charts, or graphs that describe and interpret the findings of analyses - Other tasks assigned to implement the project [PR] - Assist in implementation of PR project activities - Prepare administrative documents and translating documents - Research, compile and organize information and documents for activities - Support with social media promotion * Except for the Statistics and PR functions, the interns may be asked to serve functions not covered in this announcement, as well as to provide support when necessary. Working Hours and Location - 1st term: during the break (Feb to Mar 2023) - 2nd term: during the semester (Apr to Jul 2023) Application for this term Working Hours: 4 hours per day in principle between 09:00 to 18:00 (KST) - An intern’s working hours by default for online internship students will be up to 20 hours per week and will be flexibly decided according to Board’s consultation and each department’s project schedule. Location: Home-based Financial Support Monthly salary* (20h/week): 1,048,580 won *Monthly salary for offline interns was calculated depending on their working hours a week (based on the minimum hourly wage of KRW 9,620 under Korean Labor Law). All the costs connected with an intern’s participation, except the above financial support, shall be covered by the intern. 経済政策コース入学予定者の皆さんへ

～必修３科目の準備について～

  間もなく、公共政策大学院での新学期が始まります。 2023年度は最初の学期に、経済政策コース必修科目のうち「Microeconomics」「Econometrics for Public Policy」の２科目が（関連する実習科目も）開講されます。単位取得が大学院修了要件となりますから、入学前から周到に準備して、失敗のないようにしてください。とくに英語での講義に慣れていない人には英語が大きなハードルになるかもしれません（Aセメスター（A1A2ターム）の「Macroeconomics」も英語で講義されます）。しかし、心配はいりません。皆さんの先輩の多くも当初苦労しましたが、１年生を終わる頃には、英語の授業を抵抗なく受講できるように育っていきます。もちろん、事前の準備と受講時の努力が不可欠です。 入学前の事前の準備は、経済学の勉強と英語の勉強の両方が必要です。ミクロ経済学とマクロ経済学は皆さんの多くがすでに学部レベルの勉強をしていると思いますが、あらためてこれまで使用した教科書を復習することが有効でしょう。計量経済学も同様です。これらの科目を未修の人は独習での予習を始めることをお勧めします。 また、授業で使用される教科書を事前に入手して、勉強を始めることも有効です。Sセメスター（S1S2ターム）では、これら必修科目の講義が週４コマ（２コマ×２科目）ありますから、これまで英語を読む習慣がなかった人は、授業のペースに合わせて教科書を読むことがかなり重荷になります。入学前の春休みの期間に教科書を読み進めて、英語を読むこと、英語で経済学を学ぶことに早めに慣れるようにすることは、大きな助けになるでしょう。 2023年度Sセメスター（S1S2ターム）に開講される２科目で使用する教科書は以下のようになっています。    【Microeconomics】 Austan Goolsbee, Steven Levitt, Chad Syverson, Microeconomics, 3rd Edition, Worth (ISBN 978-1319306793) * 1st Edition, 2nd Editionの使用も可。なお1st Editionには日本語訳あり。  【Econometrics for Public Policy】 Jeffrey M. Wooldridge, Introductory Econometrics: A Modern Approach, 5th Edition (International Edition), South-Western (ISBN 978-1111534394) * 7th Edition等のより新しい版や、通常版（英語版）の使用も可。 Econometrics for Public Policyでは、Wooldridgeの教科書のAppendixに載っている程度の確率・統計の基礎知識を前提にします（和記号Σの使い方も前提となります）。統計学を未修の人は、Appendixの内容を事前に予習するか、日本語の教科書（例えば、ポール.G.ホーエル（著）、浅井晃、村上正康（訳）『初等統計学』培風館。同じ著者の『入門数理統計学』と混同しないように注意）で知識を補うようにしてください。 Aセメスター（A1A2ターム）に開講されるEconometrics for Public Policyでは以下を教科書として使用予定です。 Angrist, D. Josh and Jorn-steffen Pischke. (2014). "Mastering 'Metrics: The Path from Cause to Effect" (Paperback-Illustrated), Princeton University Press (ISBN 978-0691152844)

The CAMPUS Asia program gave me an opportunity to experience a different culture, education system, and even a different lifestyle.  In GraSPP, there are many courses focusing on different areas we can choose from, including Politics, Economics, and Law. GraSPP provided us with a very open and diverse learning environment, and we had the opportunity to attend classes and discuss issues with students from different countries. I did group work with many of my classmates, we came from different countries, and our educational backgrounds and the political cultures of our countries were all very different, but when we thought about a problem together and wanted to solve it, we found that the differences made our collaboration more interesting and allowed us to think about academic issues from a wider perspective. I really enjoyed my course here and the interaction with students from different backgrounds, which has broadened my horizons.

Besides, I took the CAMPUS Asia Joint Course and had classes together with students from Japan and South Korea. We discussed the future of the relations between the three countries, the public opinion in our countries, and even the stereotypes among the three countries. Such exchanges have deepened my understanding of Japanese and Korean politics, economy, and culture. We were also divided into four groups and went on a field trip to Nagano Prefecture and completed a group presentation with the help of Japanese government officials, which enriched our understanding of the Japanese government and the topics it works on.

Living in Japan for five months gave me a deeper understanding of Japanese culture and I fell in love with it. Japan is a country with a rich cultural heritage and history, and has a unique blend of traditional and modern influences. During my holiday, I traveled to Kyoto and Niigata. Kyoto's maple leaves and temples were enchanting, and walking the paths of Kyoto was as if history was right before our eyes. Niigata was a land of snow, the days I was there were filled with snow and I was able to experience the aesthetic of solitude that Yasunari Kawabata writes about.

All in all, I treasure the five months I was able to live in Japan and I think it will be a very precious memory in my life.
