Studying at GraSPP gave me the analytical foundation and global perspective that continue to guide me in complex humanitarian settings. Today, I serve as the Head of Area Office for the United Nations World Food Programme (UNWFP) in Rakhine State, Myanmar, where I lead food assistance operations in one of the country’s most challenging and volatile regions.

My responsibilities include coordinating emergency responses during crises such as natural disasters or armed conflict. For example, following the landfall of Cyclone Mocha in 2023, I directed a large-scale humanitarian operation that provided immediate food assistance to over 200,000 people. I also led the planning and execution of staff relocations during renewed fighting between the Myanmar Armed Forces and the Arakan Army, while ensuring that rapid response mechanisms were activated to meet urgent humanitarian needs.

Working in the field requires not only technical and logistical skills, but also the ability to coordinate with a wide range of stakeholders, including UN agencies, donors, local communities, and national authorities. I act as the principal WFP representative in Rakhine State and serve as the Area Security Coordinator, facilitating coordination among humanitarian actors and engaging closely with both the UN Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator.

In 2024, I had the opportunity to give a short lecture during a GraSPP seminar. It was a truly insightful experience to engage in dialogue with scholars and students who are passionate about global issues and eager to make a difference.

My time at GraSPP taught me the importance of evidence-based policy and international cooperation. It helped me cultivate the interdisciplinary mindset and resilience that are essential when responding to the world’s most urgent crises.

To those considering careers in international organizations or public service, I encourage you to embrace challenges, remain adaptable, and never lose sight of the people your work is meant to serve. If I can be of any help in navigating career paths within international organizations, I would be more than happy to assist.
