This is a notice from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan.
The South Korean authorities have announced that on March 14 of this year, foot-and-mouth disease infection was confirmed at a beef cattle farm in Jeollanam-do Province. This is the first confirmed case of foot-and-mouth disease in South Korea since 2023.
Not only is South Korea geographically close to Japan, but the number of passengers visiting Japan last year was 7.95 million, the highest number ever, due to increase of flights from South Korea to various parts of Japan. The risk of the disease entering Japan is considered to be extremely high.
In light of this situation, the Animal Quarantine Service will continue to thoroughly enforce its existing measures, such as publicity regarding the prohibition of livestock products brought into Japan from various Asian countries, including South Korea, disinfection of shoe soles, and inspection of portable items and international mail.
