Student Discount for Commuter Pass
If you are a regular student or an exchange student, you can purchase your train pass to the university with discounted rate. Please ask at the railway company for more detail. The student certificate which you need to show the railway company when you buy the pass will be distributed by the Graduate School Office at the Guidance for new students.
Illness or Injury
The Health Service Centers consists of internal medicine, neuropsychiatry, otology and dentistry. Anyone belonging to the university can visit there to receive diagnosis and treatment for illnesses and injuries, as well as for health counseling, first aid and other services, regardless of the department to which he or she belongs. Basically, consultation is free and you need to pay for a medicine charges only.
If you wish to visit the University of Tokyo Hospital, please ask the Health Service Center to provide a letter of introduction for you, otherwise you will have to pay additional 5,250JPY as special healthcare expenditure.

Precautions against Earthquakes
Earthquakes occur frequently in Japan. You should always take precautions against earthquakes.
You can prepare by keeping the following items in your Emergency Backpack: water (or juices, or other beverages), food for two or three days (hard, dry crackers, canned food, etc.), a can opener, medicine, a first-aid kit, a flashlight, and a radio with new batteries.
In case of an Earthquake
Turn off any electric or gas burners. Also turn off the main gas valves.
Open at least one window or door to create an exit.
If you are indoors during an earthquake, do not go outside as there is the danger of being hit by falling debris.
If you are outdoors, move to an open and safe area, etc.
