Scholarship: Go Global Scholarships second Call for the 2021 Short (3 month-1 year) Study Abroad Scholarships The 2021 Short (3 month-1 year) Study Abroad Scholarships application guideline has been announced on the Go Global website. Those who wish to apply for this scholarships should submit necessary documents to the Graduate School Office by the following deadline after reading the application guidelines carefully. Deadline： 12pm on Friday, 24 December, 2021 Submit to (in print form)： GraSPP Graduate School Office Submit to (in electronic file): exchange.j[at]gs.mail.u-tokyo.ac.jp Note: Please be sure to prepare application documents well in advance. Applicants need to receive an explanation on procedures for their study abroad from GraSPP Graduate School Office BEFORE submitting their application. To obtain the scholarship, students have to take out overseas travel insurance etc. before their departure, which covers the period of study abroad.

The University of Tokyo will be holding “Tokyo Forum 2021” on Thursday, December 2 and Friday, December 3, 2021. Science has shown remarkable development in recent years and has made our lives increasingly convenient and efficient, for example through the expansion of the internet or remote medical treatment using AI.   However, it is ironic that in some ways we feel more anxious as a result of this scientific development. The digital divide has widened. More people and information cross national boundaries, causing anxiety in local communities. Anxiety fuels exclusive nationalism in people’s minds. Competition between major powers intensifies, forcing countries in between to make difficult choices. Science has once again become a tool for international contention rather than a common good shared by the human race.   How can we develop science, and at the same time explain and cope with the new apprehension it causes in our minds?
