NOTICE: Academic gown rental and purchase for the graduation ceremony in Sep., 2020 The academic gown for students who will graduate in September, 2020 will be available from Monday, 3 August to　Tuesday, 25 August, 2020 at the University of Tokyo CO-OP. If you would like to rent or purchase a gown, please see the following web pages and order it through the CO-OP website. Please note that only representatives will attend the UTokyo autumn degree conferment ceremony and graduation ceremony, so please be careful when renting. * As the University of Tokyo CO-OP has only limited numbers of gowns in stock, they are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. * When you make a payment at the University of Tokyo CO-OP, you need to present a certificate of expected graduation which is available at the certificate dispensers in campus.

The University of Tokyo will hold the Diploma Presentation Ceremony for AY2020 as follows. Date&Time： From 10:00 to 10:50 on Friday, 18 September, 2020 Venue： Yasuda Auditorium (Address: 7-3-1, Hongo, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo) (Campus Map) Eligibility： Those who graduated (will graduate) between April and September 2020 (However, only the representatives can participate in the ceremony.) For those who are unable to attend the ceremonies, a live stream of the ceremony will be provided via the Internet. In the afternoon of the same day the GraSPP Diploma Presentation Ceremony will take place. However, the details have not decided yet and subject to changes (including the cancellation of the ceremony) depending on the university activities restrictions caused by the covid-19 pandemics. The GraSPP Graduate School Office will notify its schedule of graduating students directly.

Knowledge of public policy is the most important element in the current public governance scenario for any potential global leader. Without understanding the workings of public policy, it is almost impossible to lead and manage current governance issues. From the past decade, almost all pioneer universities in the world have been establishing a public policy department and one of them is the University of Tokyo (UTokyo)’s Graduate School of Public Policy (GraSPP). UTokyo is a top university in the world and GraSPP is a shining new addition to its suite of faculties.

Before joining GraSPP, I worked as a civil servant. I got to know about GraSPP and was successfully applied to be a MPP/IP student in 2011. After enrolling in GraSPP, it was as if a miracle happened in my life. MPP/IP revolutionized my life by broadening my arena of knowledge and skills, and deepening my views towards governance and public policy issues. I am sure that it would not have been possible to enroll in a PhD program from this October 2020 in the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS), had I not studied in GraSPP.

With its renowned faculty members, GraSPP provides various opportunities for students to flourish through gaining different knowledge and skills via case studies, class presentation, report writing, educational excursions and multicultural social gatherings.

Upon graduation, I resumed my government job in Nepal and realized that my thinking pattern and job delivery efficiency has been amazingly increased. Not only that, due to the new knowledge gained, I was promoted after doing well in a highly competitive examination. Currently, I am working in the Department of Customs, under the Ministry of Finance, Nepal as a Director General. The Director General is a senior official in the Nepal Customs. In this position, I oversee 38 big and 131 small customs offices with about 1200 staffs working across the nation.

Truth be told, I hope that many talented brains from all over the world will have a chance to study at GraSPP and make their future bright. This is not only for people from Asia but for anyone who is interested to learn about Asia. I believe that GraSPP is the best destination for talented students interested in a public policy education.

Research Paper schedule (5150010 course code) Two credit points will be conferred upon passing the final oral examination. Research Paper can be written during both their first year and second year. A maximum of four credits can potentially be gained through the submission of a Research Paper. Though you can register and write Research Paper and Thesis at the same semester, you cannot submit the same Title Report for each papers. The paper must be written under the academic supervision of a faculty member. Only those faculty members who teach course at the Graduate School of Public Policy in the same academic year are permitted to be supervisors. Part-time lecturers and some of Visiting teachers cannot be supervisors. If it is discovered that it has occurred, students may have credits cancelled or their degree revoked.
