In 26th March, 2020, students from UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs are coming to UTokyo for a study trip, and we are planning to have a joint seminar with them. Call for Applications: Research Assistant PositionsResearch Assistant System at The University of Tokyo aims to promote effective research activities, to create an enabling research environment and to develop young researchers’ capabilities by making doctoral students with superior academic abilities and performance engaged in various research and research-related activities. In pursuit of the same aim, Graduate School of Public Policy gives its doctoral students with superior academic abilities and performance an opportunity to be engaged in the GraSPP Research Seminar Program (GReSP) as Research Assistants (RAs). The GReSP provides a venue where GraSPP faculty members, visiting researchers and invited speakers share their cutting-edge research work on public policy and related topics with broader academic and policy communities. GraSPP invites doctoral students enrolled in GraSPP to apply for Research Assistant positions as follows.
Eligibility Full-time doctoral students enrolled in GraSPP doctoral program Term of appointment Six months (April 2020 - September 2020) ResponsibilitiesRAs are required to contribute to the successful implementation of the GReSP by all levels of work in collaboration with faculty members and staff in charge. Expected work includes but not limited to: -Preparation for the seminar -Announcement/Advertisement -Support the seminar operation on the day -Maintain and update of the GReSP mailing list -Making records of events -Other related work
Remuneration40,000 yen / month Paid in accordance with the rules and regulations set by GraSPP. Please note that the amount of withholding tax will be deducted from each payment.
Number of RAs to be appointed in the same term Two Documents to be submitted An applicant is required to submit a research work plan (Form 1, 36KB in Excel format). Prior to submission, please obtain your main supervisor’s approval. Following the outbreak of Novel Coronavirus in China, there have been cases of people being diagnosed with the same virus outside China and therefore, it can be said that the virus is spreading. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has set the warning level to "Level 3 – Do not travel (Recommend cancellation of travel)” to the whole of the Hubei Province. Furthermore, the Japanese Government has issued a cabinet ordinance declaring the pneumonia caused as a result of the Novel Coronavirus as a "designated infectious disease" on the basis of the Infectious Disease Law. Therefore, the Division for Health Service Promotion has issued an alert and request to all members as follows. We ask all employees to take appropriate measures with good, common sense. [Travelling to foreign countries] Please do not travel to Hubei Province in China. Furthermore, if travelling to places other than Hubei Province in China, please consider its necessity. In addition, please consider measures such as a gargling, washing of hands, wearing of masks, avoiding crowded areas when traveling to countries other than China where infection has been already reported to. Also, please try to obtain the latest information for that region before you travel. [Precautions in Japan] As there are a large number of tourists from the foreign countries in Japan, it is necessary to take precautions. Please make sure to obtain appropriate information and calmly take action. University entrance exams (Hongo area) Tue, 25 Feb and Wed, 26 Feb, 2020 The following are the temporary measures for the Second University Entrance Exam: Entry into the entrance exam room areas is strictly prohibited; only students, faculty members, and staff who have special permission may enter the areas. Faculty and administrative staff must show an ID card of UTokyo when entering the Hongo Campus. Students who need especially to enter the Hongo Campus for research activities must show an ID card of UTokyo when entering. Those who are not affiliated with the university must show a temporary ID card when entering. Entry to and exit from the university are possible through the Main/Red/Yayoi/Nishikata/Kaitoku/Pharmaceutical/Second Refectory/Nou-Seimon/South gates. In principle, entering the Hongo Campus by car is prohibited. * Due to the English listening tests, driving a car on campus except for in an emergency is prohibited during the following dates and times: Wednesday, 26 February from 14:40 to 15:20 Please refrain from making a noise in the exam room areas. -

As new students in the programs offered in Japanese will also attend the event, it would be better to have a communication skill in simple Japanese, but you can join us with other GraSPP students who are fluent in Japanese.
