NOTICE: Result of Tuition Fee Exemption for the Second Half of AY2018

The Student Scholarship and Welfare Group has announced the result of Tuition Fee Exemption for the Second Half of AY2018 on UTAS. Students who applied for the tuition exemption should read the following notice and check the result through UTAS.

Please be aware that from this year, the results of the selection for the tuition fee exemption will be announced on the UTokyo Academic affairs System (UTAS) only, and not by the postal notification as used in previous years. Therefore, please log in to UTAS and check the “Student Info” section. If there are no notifications by the middle of December, please contact the Scholarship Team, of the Student Scholarship and Welfare Group.

However, the result for deferred payment of tuition fee will still be sent by mail. Therefore, if you have not received a notification by the middle of December, please contact the Scholarship Team of the Student Scholarship and Welfare Group.

Please note that Thursday, December 27 is the scheduled withdrawal date. Students who have been approved for reduced payment or have had their application for tuition fee exemption rejected and have arranged to pay their tuition fees by direct debit, should make sure they have deposited the amount equivalent to their tuition fees into their account by 15:00 on Wednesday, December 26. Students who have not registered for direct debit should pay their tuition fees in accordance with the invoice that will be sent by the Accounting Group.

Please note that the results of the application for this semester will not be automatically carried over to the following year. Those who wish to receive tuition fee exemption for the next academic year (April 2019 – March 2020) must reapply. With regards to tuition fee exemption for the first half of academic year 2019, please check the details on our website or bulletin boards.

The purpose of this program is to help students who excel academically but suffer economic hardships so that they do not give up continuing their academic studies. Under the current serious financial conditions, the number of applicants has been rapidly increasing. We appreciate your full understanding of our efforts to manage this program on a limited budget.

To enhance our support for students’ study and research activities, the University of Tokyo has started a free laptop PC rental service for students who have received the tuition fee exemptions. If needed, please confirm the requirements from here.
