【Description】

In Spring 2019, as colour returned to the gingko trees in Todai’s Hongo Campus, four GraSPPers chose to become public policy practitioners rather than just students. By establishing Woman Empowered International (WE Int.), they went from studying, reading and discussing the importance of gender equality to doing something about it. They created WE Int. to act as a driving force for gender equality and offer a platform for young women to pursue their academic, professional and social ambitions. In doing so, not only did they set up GraSPP’s first true social initiative, but they also contributed to enhancing the fabric of society; an aspiration every GraSPPer shares when enrolling.

A social movement can be powerful and spur a paradigm shift. It also requires an incredible amount of dedication and work to build and sustain. The four co-founders of Woman Empowered International (WE Int.) managed to launch an organization and construct a framework around it that enabled its continued existence. In this edition of GraSPP Alumni Dialogues, the four co-founders will discuss student-led social movements, female empowerment, as well as the past, present and future of WE Int.
