The application period is from 12pm on Monday, 1 April to 12pm on Monday, 8 April. Call for Applications: Research Assistant Position
Research Assistant System at The University of Tokyo aims to promote effective research activities, to create an enabling research environment and to develop young researchers’ capabilities by making doctoral students with superior academic abilities and performance engaged in various research and research-related activities. For the purpose above, STIG, one of the research project of Graduate School of Public Policy gives its doctoral students with superior academic abilities and performance an opportunity to be engaged as Research Assistant (RA). STIG conducts research about “the empirical study contributing to the development of a national scheme for university-driven space technology development and utilization capacity building with foreign developing countries”. STIG in GraSPP invites doctoral students enrolled in GraSPP to apply for Research Assistant positions as follows. Eligibility: Full-time doctoral students enrolled in GraSPP doctoral program Term of appointment: Eleven months (May 2019-March 2020) Responsibilities: RA is required to contribute to the successful implementation of this project by all levels of work in collaboration with research members and staff in charge. Expected tasks includes but not limited to: 1. Evaluation of various existing or past STDU (Space technology development and utilization) capacity building programs in Japan. 2. Analysis of existing or past STDU capacity building programs in foreign countries in order to compare foreign practices with Japanese ones. 3. Gathering the opinion of recipient countries on the above-mentioned Japanese and foreign STDU capacity building programs. 4. Developing ideas for schemes for the improvement of university-led Japanese STDU capacity building efforts, focusing also on sustainability of funding and national coordination of domestic efforts. 5. Planning a workshop with various stakeholders from university, government, private and non-profit sectors, which is expected to be held in FY 2020. Remuneration: 80,000 yen / month Paid in accordance with the rules and regulations set by GraSPP. Please note that the amount of withholding tax will be deducted from each payment. *Note: Doctoral students who have JSPS Research Fellowship for Young Scientist, MEXT scholarship, or benefit-type scholarship will be carefully adopted in consideration with the appropriateness of the work and research purpose as well as his/her academic expertise, etc. Number of RA to be appointed in the same term: One Documents to be submitted: An applicant is required to submit a research work plan (Form1_RA_application). It is also necessary to explain the potential contribution of the research experience of the applicant to the accomplishments of the expected tasks in the a research work plan. NOTICE: Tuition Payment for the spring semester AY2019 1. Withdrawal from a bank account The tuition for the spring semester AY2019 will be withdrawn from your bank account on Monday, 27 May. Please be sure to credit enough money to your account by Friday, 24 May. The amount of the tuition for the spring semester AY2019 is as follows. Graduate students (Professional Masters program) : 267,900 yen Graduate students (PhD program) : 260,400 yen *The tuition for students who enrolled in September before 2018: Professional Master's program==>223,250 yen PhD program==>217,000 yen 2. Applicants for tuition exemption If you receive an exemption for half the amount or do not get an exemption, the payment due date will be scheduled in early July. After you receive the notice, please credit your account with the corresponding amount immediately. 3. Issuing a receipt The withdrawal of the tuition will be appeared on your bank account statement. If you need an official receipt issued by the University of Tokyo, please come to the GraSPP Graduate School Office. The receipt is scheduled to be issued after Tuesday, 4 June. 間もなく、公共政策大学院での新学期が始まります。 2019年度は最初の学期に、経済政策コース必修科目のうち「Microeconomics」「Econometrics for Public Policy」の2科目が(関連する実習科目も)開講されます。単位取得が大学院修了要件となりますから、入学前から周到に準備して、失敗のないようにしてください。とくに英語での講義に慣れていない人には英語が大きなハードルになるかもしれません(Aセメスター(A1A2ターム)の「Macroeconomics」も英語で講義されます)。しかし、心配はいりません。皆さんの先輩の多くも当初苦労しましたが、1年生を終わる頃には、英語の授業を抵抗なく受講できるように育っていきます。もちろん、事前の準備と受講時の努力が不可欠です。 入学前の事前の準備は、経済学の勉強と英語の勉強の両方が必要です。ミクロ経済学とマクロ経済学は皆さんの多くがすでに学部レベルの勉強をしていると思いますが、あらためてこれまで使用した教科書を復習することが有効でしょう。計量経済学も同様です。これらの科目を未修の人は独習での予習を始めることをお勧めします。 また、授業で使用される教科書を事前に入手して、勉強を始めることも有効です。Sセメスター(S1S2ターム)では、これら必修科目の講義が週4コマ(2コマ×2科目)ありますから、これまで英語を読む習慣がなかった人は、授業のペースに合わせて教科書を読むことがかなり重荷になります。入学前の春休みの期間に教科書を読み進めて、英語を読むこと、英語で経済学を学ぶことに早めに慣れるようにすることは、大きな助けになるでしょう。 2019年度Sセメスター(S1S2ターム)に開講される2科目で使用する教科書は以下のようになっています。 【Microeconomics】 Walter Nicholson and Christopher Snyder, Microeconomic Theory: Basic Principles & Extensions, 12th Edition, 2016, Cengage Learning. (ISBN 9781305505797) 【Econometrics for Public Policy】 Jeffrey M. Wooldridge, Introductory Econometrics: A Modern Approach, 5th Edition (International Edition), South-Western (978-1111534394). Econometrics for Public Policyでは、Wooldridgeの教科書のAppendixに載っている程度の確率・統計の基礎知識を前提にします(和記号Σの使い方も前提となります)。統計学を未修の人は、Appendixの内容を事前に予習するか、日本語の教科書(例えば、ポール.G.ホーエル(著)、浅井晃、村上正康(訳)『初等統計学』培風館。同じ著者の『入門数理統計学』と混同しないように注意)で知識を補うようにしてください。 -

NOTICE: Applications for exemptions of admission fee in April 2019 and tuition for the first half of 2019 Those who wish to apply for admission fee and/or tuition exemptions, please see the following web page and submit application documents to the Student Scholarship and Welfare Group’s Scholarship Team by respective deadlines. Part of application forms are available on the following web page after Tuesday, 12 February and also, some paper-based forms and application/return envelopes are distributed at the Student Scholarship and Welfare Group’s Scholarship Team or the GraSPP Graduate School Office. Application periods for exemption and deferred payment of Admission fee: from Monday, 11 March to Wednesday, 13 March Tuition: from Tuesday, 12 February to Friday, 5 April (current students) from Monday, 11 March to Friday, 5 April (new students in Apr., 2019) Office hours: 9am – 5pm * The office is closed on Saturday, Sunday, national holidays, 25th and 16th February. Submit to: The Student Scholarship and Welfare Group’s Scholarship Team Notes: No applications after the deadlines are accepted for any reason. All application documents should be submitted in person or by proxy to the Scholarship Team, NOT via post. Exemptions of admission fee and tuition are intended for students who have financial difficulties. You may submit tuition exemption applications both for the first and second halves at the same time.
