With the collaboration between the Student Council of the Graduate School of Public Policy (GraSPP) and the organizers of the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs, GraSPP-Luskin joint seminar on “Japan’s Energy Challenges,” was held at the SMBC Academia Hall of the International Academic Research Building on March 28th, 2019.
The joint seminar commenced with an introduction of UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs and their Japan Trip 2019 by their representative, followed by the introduction of GraSPP by the Vice President of the Student Council. During the seminar, Professor Jun Arima made a presentation about Japan’s Energy and Climate Policy, particularly in consensus building and shaping energy policy that includes a broader picture of climate pragmatism.
More than 75 students including 46 UCLA Luskin graduate students were mixed together to have diverse and lively group discussions on the topic. Each group briefly presented their outtake, followed by Q&A, in which Professor Arima and the participants had a chance to engage in a deeper discussion on areas that students showed the most curiosity.
The seminar was very productive for both top public policy schools, as every participant had a chance to come together and exchange their views over the energy challenges and the policy issues.
GraSPP Student Council would like to again express our utmost gratitude to Professor Arima for sparing his precious time for the seminar despite of his busy schedule. Moreover, we would like to thank GraSPP administration and all the organizers involved for giving us these great collaborative opportunities and to all the students who participated and contributed to the seminar’s success.
