Professor Toshiro Nishizawa was invited to speak at Joint Working Seminar “Capacity Building in CLMV Economies” hosted by ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO) on June 10 and 11, 2019 in Luang Prabang, the former capital of Laos.
Professor Nishizawa, based on his recent work for Lao PDR, contributed to discussion on public debt sustainability issues with policy makers from AMRO member countries. The seminar was a mutual learning opportunity for all the participants, facilitated by Dr. Hoe Ee Khor, Dr. Jae Young Lee and Dr. Luke Hong from AMRO. Mr. Sovychet Vong, one of the GraSPP alumni, was one of the participants representing the National Bank of Cambodia.
The ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO) is a regional macroeconomic surveillance organization established in 2011 with the aim of contributing to securing the macroeconomic and financial stability in the ASEAN+3 region. GraSPP signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with AMRO on November 8, 2018 to pursue opportunities for cooperative research on issues of mutual interest, including such topics as cooperation on macroeconomic and financial stability of the region and macroeconomic surveillance to support the implementation of the Chiang Mai Initiative Multilateralization (CMIM). Both parties may cooperate not only by research but also by organizing joint events, promoting academic exchanges among experts and researchers from both sides, and joint publication of relevant academic works.
