As the emerging market authorities diversify their funding sources into cross-border borrowing from the private sector, the need may increase to deal with sovereign ratings and enhance investor relations functions. Inviting a global rating agency from Japan, this lecture aims to understand sovereign ratings methodologies and best practices of sovereign investor relations.
Speaker’s Profile:
Satoshi Nakagawa is Chief Analyst at the International Department of Japan Credit Rating Agency (JCR). He is responsible for the credit ratings on emerging market sovereigns (such as India, Indonesia, Mexico and Turkey), multilateral development banks (such as AfDB, CABEI and CAF) and global energy and utility companies. He is also a member of JCR’s rating committee.
Nakagawa has engaged himself in the development of credit rating systems in Asia. Since 2013, he has been a board member (currently Vice Chairman) of the Association of Credit Rating Agencies in Asia (ACRAA), a network of 29 credit rating agencies from 14 jurisdictions across Asia. At JCR, he is also promoting the collaboration between JCR and CRAs in emerging market countries. JCR signed MOU with India’s CARE Ratings in 2015 and Mexico’s HR Ratings in 2016.
