 Outline:

In this seminar, we will examine methodological questions to design solutions for the tackling of social issues in a variety of fields, namely: resources/environment/energy, health/medical care, space/ocean, security, global economy, food/life, AI/digitization, and  learning/communication. Such examination will proceed from the viewpoints of engineering, agriculture studies, informatics, and public policy studies.

In the first part of the seminar, we compare the concept of design in each field. Is design possible, in the first place?  How to handle values when setting required specifications? How to handle self-organization? We then examine cases/precedents related to design process such as the roles of stakeholders, the role of scenario in design, ethics, transition.

In the second part, a discussion will take place based on the first part’s outcomes.
