Futures Thinking and Public Policy

A Case from Singapore and Implications for Japan

Ms. Cheryl Chung, National University of Singapore

Wednesday, September 29, 2021

18:00 – 19:30 (Japan Standard Time)

Abstract: How should a government respond to an operating environment in which many of its long-standing assumptions and beliefs are being challenged, often in unexpected and disruptive ways? Incorporating futures thinking into the public policy process can be one way that governments try to design for resilience, not just efficiency. In this talk, Cheryl Chung will explore what futures thinking looks in the public policy context, share some strengths and challenges from the Singapore case and explore the implications for Japan.
