Mr. Au Nok Hin is a student in our PhD program, and he is a specialist in comparative social welfare policy. On January 6, 2021, one day after he returned to Hong Kong, he was arrested by the Hong Kong authorities. His passport and smartphone, and above all, his computer, which is essential for his research, were confiscated.
This act infringes on Mr. Au’s right to pursue free academic research, a value that all universities, including the Graduate School of Public Policy, upholds. We are still eagerly waiting for his return to our academic community in the near future.
