Yes, You can choose either EPFD or PMIR according to your interest of study. You can change your policy stream with permission just once during your study period. However, those who apply for scholarship under JISPA (IMF) must choose EPFD and complete its requirements.

Follow the steps below:

Step 1. Obtain the official transcript (or a certificate of graduation) or the certified copy issued by the university. Create its PDF file.

No. You can create only one Web entry account with one email address throughout the application process of that year. The MPP/IP Desk will not accept changes to application information after an application has been submitted. When the MPP/IP Desk finds multiple applications from an identical applicant, only the first application will be accepted. However, if there are any changes that occur after the application submission excluding the standardized tests and educational background, applicants must notify the MPP/IP Desk of the necessary information changes immediately. Successful applicants can apply for scholarships directly from the University of Tokyo. Basically, these scholarships are only available to students who have already been accepted into a program of study at the UTokyo. In many cases, Japanese language skills are required. Therefore, we strongly recommend self-financed applicants to seek a financial support by themselves well in advance. (July. 25, 2022)

As for the UTokyo Fellowship, GraSPP does not accept applications. We contact prospective students who have outstanding academic background from our side and offer an opportunity to apply for UTokyo Fellowship. If you are a JJ/WBGSP, ADB-JSP or JISPA scholar, the admission fees and tuition will be paid to the University of Tokyo directly from those organizations.

The first stipend payment should be sent to your account about one month after submitting the details of your account in Japan. So please be well prepared to pay living costs for at least a month until you receive your first stipend payment. If you need to pay the down payment for an apartment rental contract, you will need more cash in hand. (The down payment will not be reimbursed by the scholarship).

If you would like to apply for private scholarships through our university, please submit the “Application Form for Scholarships from Private Foundations” together with your latest transcript (original) after being admitted. The International Student Adviser will then provide you with scholarship information by e-mail as information becomes available. Private scholarships are difficult to obtain in Japan, and they often require high Japanese language ability.

No. You can be recommended by the University of Tokyo for only one scholarship at a time. This rule is in place to save the university any complication should students decline a scholarship which was secured with the university’s recommendation. Unfortunately, MPP/IP’s application schedule is not compatible with that of the MEXT scholarship program since we cannot give you entry permission until March.

2: You would like to apply to the Japanese Government (MEXT) scholarship through University Recommendation.

Yes. You may take any Japanese-taught courses with credit. There is no specific requirements for Japanese proficiency but please understand that the materials, exams and reports will all be in (academic) Japanese. Please attend any classes that interest you during the first week in order to decide whether you would like to continue nor not. Roughly speaking, about the half of the applicants are nominated to the destination universities in the past years. Usually, 1 - 2 students are nominated to each university both Ex. and DD programs. However, the competitiveness quite depends on the year and your choices of program/university to apply for.

iBT>90 for DD programs; iBT>85 for Ex. programs at the time of application at GraSPP. (*Some universities require higher score.) Yes, you can replace your TOEFL score as many times as possible before the application deadline.
