Muhamad Izham Abd Shukor, a student of the Master of Public Policy International Program (MPP/IP), contributed Chapter 25, “The Energy Transition Dynamics in Southeast Asia” of Handbook on the Geopolitics of the Energy Transition as the main author with Nurjuanis Zara Zainuddin and Noor Miza Razali. The main thrust of the chapter is as follows.

The surging demand for an energy transition has paved the way for active involvement from non-ASEAN countries in collaborative endeavors within the region. Diverse dialogue partners and international organizations bring unique perspectives to their collaboration with ASEAN, with some advocating a rapid energy transition and others recognizing the necessity for a more gradual shift. This chapter explores the intricate dynamics of energy transition within ASEAN, navigating the delicate balance between sustainability, affordability, and energy security in engagements with dialogue partners and international organizations. As the region grapples with these nuanced considerations, the imperative to foster harmonious collaboration becomes pivotal in effectively addressing the challenges posed by the ever-evolving energy landscape.
